The seaside resort of Great Yarmouth in the county of Norfolk has been a popular resort since 1760. Up until the early 18th century though, herring was what made Yarmouth great; this was a thriving herring port with a strong maritime heritage. At the Time and Tide museum, in the old Tower Curing Works, visitors can discover the history of Great Yarmouth as the most important port on the east coast of England. The 15 miles of golden sandy beaches along this varied coastline, along with easier travel and the popularity of seaside holidays made it a natural destination for visitors.
Great Yarmouth has everything a seaside holiday destination could hope for, with a busy parade, seaside amusements, theme parks, traditional pubs, great seafood, eateries, attractions and fun as well as stunning coastal scenery, rugged cliffs, peaceful walks and a seal colony. Great Yarmouth's town centre is well stocked with a variety of shops and a bustling market place for easy, pleasurable shopping.
