The town of Gosport in the county of Hampshire lies on a peninsula of Portsmouth Harbour and is right opposite the city of Portsmouth; linked by a ferry. Gosport is rich with maritime heritage and has been the home of a major naval and military centre that is now a tourism and heritage site. To further explore the story of Gosport, the Royal Navy Submarine Museum is an excellent start, with guided tours of the World War II submarine HMS Alliance as well as the Navy's first submarine from 1901, the Holland I.
