Glastonbury

Infamous Glastonbury is a small town in the county of Somerset that is synonymous with its festival. History though has a different story to tell of Glastonbury; with myths, magic, legends and tales to discover and explore. Joseph of Arimathea, the Holy Grail and King Arthur are the source of many of the stories told of Glastonbury; in 1191 monks at the abbey claimed to have found the graves of Arthur and Guinevere to the south of the Lady Chapel of the Abbey church and in some Arthurian literature, Glastonbury is identified with the legendary island of Avalon.

Some visitors come for the history, taking in Glastonbury Abbey, Glastonbury Tor, the Rural Life Museum, Chalice Well or any number of fascinating historic and religious sites; some visitors come to enjoy the busy town centre, full of unusual shops, churches, and a variety of pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars; some come for the incredible countryside, stunning scenery and abundance of outdoor activities… but by far the largest number of visitors come for the festival. The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts is the official name and it is the largest open-air music and performing arts festival in the world; featuring a colourful, diverse blend of contemporary music, dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret and many other arts.
