Glan Conway

Promoted as "The Gateway to Snowdonia National Park", Glan Conwy is a village and parish in the Conwy county borough in North Wales, on the opposite bank of the River Conwy to the town of Conwy. It was established around the Church of St Ffraid, on the bank of the River Conwy, which is what the place name in its full Welsh version of Llansanffraid Glan Conwy refers to; Ffraid being the Welsh for Bridget. The tradition goes that the parish was founded when St. Bridget sailed from Ireland on piece of turf and alighted on a bank of the River Conwy. It was actually founded by Maelgwyn Gwynedd in the 5th century, comprising of five royal manors that are now the townships of Trellan, Trebwll, Tre Trallwyn, Tre Deunant and Pen y Rhos.

The village follows a traditional format, featuring two public houses and a selection of local shops. It now serves largely as a commuter dormitory, with good transport links and close proximity to several busy towns. Attractions in the area include Conwy Castle, Plas Mawr Elizabethan Town House, Aberconwy House, and the Snowdon Mountain Railway.
