Garswood

Garswood is a village in Merseyside, in the north-east of England. It lies between Ashton-in-Makerfield, the popular seaside town of St Helens and Wigan.  Garswood has a very strong heritage in the coal mining industry in its past, due to the large amount of outcropping coal seams and some opencast mining still continues. Seneley Green, which is now used as Garswood Public Library, was the area's first free public grammar school, which opened in 1588.

The village is home to the Railway Hotel, the Stag Hotel and the Simms Road Inn public houses, making this little Mersy village a delightful vantage point from which to explore the wider area.
