Garstang

Garstang is situated on the River Wyre in a place of 'Outstanding Natural Beauty' close to the scenic Forrest of Bowland, Nicky Nook and Grizedale Valley.

Garstang has been settled for some 1400 years or more. The first record of the town appears in the Doomsday Book and was named 'Cherestanc'.

It thrived during the 18th century when it was an important staging post for mail and passenger coaches, prosperity increased with the opening of the canal in 1797.

Today Garstang is a small market town with a variety of shops and pubs.

Many independent businesses in the town work together with the organizations of Garstang and District to support activities which make our town a vibrant living place with a real sense of community; a wonderful place in which to live, work and visit!
