Gairloch

The village of Gairloch lies on the shores of picturesque Loch Gairloch and is part of the Ross and Cromarty area of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. This is a region popular with walkers, climbers, outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike; offering breathtaking contrasts and spectacular landscapes as well as some of the oldest rock formations in Europe that date from the Cambrian and Precambrian age. Gairloch is a popular destination for visitors as it offers wonderful natural attractions and plenty of opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities, with golf courses and abundant fishing. The small museum here at Gairloch gives visitors a fascinating insight into the lives and past of the people of the area.

Gairloch has its port and harbour areas as well as the town itself and offers ample amenities, shops and eateries and is within reach of other towns that offer additional choices for dining, shopping and leisure. Most visitors come for the fishing, the views, the wildlife and the spectacular scenery across the Loch as well as the historic and visitor attractions in the area. A Pictish stone with a distinctive carving of a salmon was found in Gairloch in 1880 and is displayed at the Gairloch Heritage Museum. The finding of the stone makes this one of the westernmost sites where such a discovery has been made.
