Formby

Formby is a tourist town in Merseyside, England, on the Irish Sea coast, close to Liverpool. It is best known for the Grade II listed Formby Hall, which dates back to 1223, and is a famous national attraction, drawing many thousands of visitors to the town each summer. However, Formby is also popular for its wide sandy beaches, sand dunes, and wildlife reserves, since the town's Pinewood nature reserve is one of the last English habitats of the red squirrel and a rare breeding ground for the Natterjack toad.

The town's Viking heritage, which is evident in its name and in much of its character, began when the Norse migrated to the area from Ireland in around 960 AD, and Anglo-Saxon control of the area declined. Today, Formby is a pleasant and welcoming town, with much to offer the visitor, from fantastic shopping prospects, to a broad range of holiday accommodation and entertainment venues. Other attractions in the area include Aintree Racecourse, the Awesome Walls Climbing Centre Liverpool, the World Museum, the International Slavery Museum, and Tate Liverpool.
