Felinheli

The coastal village and port of Felinheli in Gwynedd, Wales lies alongside the Menai Strait where the River Heulyn joins the sea. Although there has long been a settlement in the area, it was by the 18th century that development and prosperity were seen here with several mills utilising the tidal power of the Menai Strait and the building of an extensive harbour for the trade in slate from the Dinorwig quarries. The slate was brought to the quay on the purpose-built Dinorwic Railway narrow gauge railway. The slate industry is no longer the reason for income and visitors here, tourism has replaced industry and the harbour is now a place for recreational sailing that attracts visitors throughout the year.

Felinheli offers ample amenities, shops, eateries and pubs as well as the wonderful port area with moorings, a marina and thriving businesses servicing the boating industry. Visitors come to enjoy the beauty of Felinheli and its surrounding area as well as the delights of getting out o the water. The local sailing club hosts dinghy racing on Saturday afternoons as well as Wednesday and Friday evenings.
