The town of Farnborough in the county of Hampshire is a well known destination for aviation enthusiasts who come from far and wide every other year to attend the airshow. The Farnborough International Airshow brings an international trade fair here for a week-long event focused on the aerospace industry. The colourful biennial event happens in even-numbered years in the summer. Farnborough’s aviation links started in the early 20th century when His Majesty's Balloon Factory was set up and led to Farnborough being home to pioneering research and where the first powered flight in Britain took place in 1908.
Farnborough offers visitors ample amenities, shops, eateries and pubs along with a wonderful choice of visitor and cultural attractions in the area, including; the Farnborough Air Sciences Trust’s Aerospace Museum with exhibits from the early years of aviation, based in the historic listed building which housed the Royal Balloon School in the past; Farnborough Abbey where Napoleon III and his wife are buried and the daunting crypt of St Peter's Old Parish Church, believed to house the remains of many of the Earls of Anglesey.
