The market town of Fareham in the county of Hampshire has origins that go back to before Roman times, when a small settlement developed around a crossing point of the River Wallington. Fareham has been a port and a place of industry, utilising its clay soil for the production of bricks, tiles and chimney pots. The Royal Albert Hall in London is constructed of ‘Fareham red bricks’. The town lies at the tip of Portsmouth Harbour where it meets the River Wallington and there is a rich maritime heritage here that continues with HM Royal Navy’s Maritime Warfare School and HMS Collingwood.
Fareham’s High Street, with fine Georgian architectural examples offers excellent shopping along with ample amenities and a choice of eateries and pubs. There are a number of visitor and cultural attractions in the area, including; the Royal Armouries Museum, nearby Hovercraft Museum at Lee-on-the-Solent, Portchester Castle and Fort Fareham
