Fairbourne

The coastal village of Fairbourne in Gwynedd, Wales is within Barmouth Bay, connected to Barmouth by ferries that sail across the Mawddach estuary from the seaward end of the Fairbourne Railway. This idyllic location is amidst the Snowdonia National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty popular with walkers, climbers and outdoor enthusiasts. Fairbourne as a seaside resort was founded by Arthur McDougall of flour making fame and with the combination of stunning scenery and a two mile stretch of sandy beach, the reasons why, are obvious.

Fairbourne offers ample amenities, shops, eateries and pubs as well as historic sites and nearby visitor and cultural attractions. The area offers lots of outdoor activities too, including horse riding, quad biking, dry slope skiing and canoeing as well as golf, fishing and of course, a wonderful choice of scenic walks. The beach can be enjoyed with a journey on the miniature steam railway that runs from the centre of Fairbourne along the peninsula to the small ferry taking foot passengers to Barmouth. The Fairbourne Railway offers journeys from the village to Penrhyn Point and has been doing so since 1895.
