Exmouth

The large port town of Exmouth in the attractive county of Devon lies at the mouth of the River Exe in a picturesque setting with two miles of sandy beach home to fascinating rock pools. It was around the 13th century that Exmouth experienced growth and development with the building of a windmill, ferry dock and a small number of buildings that went on to become the Exmouth we see today. The town and port suffered under pirate raids that were common along the entire Devon and Cornwall coastlines up until the 17th century but by the 18th century, Exmouth was starting to become a resort destination. It was favoured for its views and medicinal salt waters and the wealthy came to improve their health; Exmouth welcomed many famous people of the time including; Lady Byron and Lady Nelson.

Exmouth is a wonderful seaside resort that offers everything a visitor could want with an indoor market, huge range of shops, plenty of restaurants and eateries as well as bars and traditional pubs. Manor Gardens and Strand Gardens are enjoyed throughout the year by residents and visitors alike and well worth taking the time to enjoy. Exmouth frequently takes the title of winner in the ‘Britain in Bloom’ competitions with creative floral displays and immaculately kept gardens.
