It was originally establsihed by an Anglo-Saxon named Eardwulf, and it was around this homestead that the town developed.

Erdington town centre is known for its excellent shopping, with a broad selection of high street and independent shops, and two busy markets. Popular attractions in the area include Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens, Ash End House Children's Farm, Blakesley Hall, Middleton Hall, and Kingsbury Water Park.
