The large industrial town of Ellesmere Port in the county of Cheshire was originally founded to provide access to the sea from Ellesmere, Shropshire and the Welsh border area via the Ellesmere Canal. Designed and engineered by William Jessop and Thomas Telford, the canal was part of a project that aimed to connect the rivers Severn, Mersey and Dee. Located on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal, Ellesmere Port is a hive of industry that continues to expand today.
As well as the wealth of good amenities, abundant shopping and restaurants offering cuisine from across the world, Ellesmere Port has pubs both traditional and modern, plenty of cultural activities to enjoy, historic buildings to explore and quality visitor attractions including; the unique National Waterways Museum with the world's largest collection of narrow boats and inland waterways craft, exhibitions and historic dock complex; the award winning Blue Planet Aquarium and the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet with over 150 top-name shops selling everything from designer clothes to toys and gifts.
