The market town of Egremont in the picturesque county of Cumbria lies on the River Eden with a long historical and industrial heritage. Nestled at the foot of Uldale Valley and Dent Fell, Egremont is still laid out much as it was when Richard de Lucy designed it around 1200. The past is evident too in the ruins of the Norman Castle near the Market Place and in the celebration of the annual fair that has continued since 1267. The dyeing and weaving industries provided prosperity and brought growth here, as did iron ore mining and quarrying that have been established in Egremont since the 13th century.
There are ample amenities and shops, pubs and eateries both here and in the nearby towns and villages as well as historic buildings and sites of interest. Egremont has many unique and interesting places to enjoy including the Castle, Florence Mine, Lowes Court Gallery, Clints Quarry and the beautiful surrounding countryside with cycle paths, lovely walks and outdoor activities.
