The town of Eastleigh in the county of Hampshire is part of the picturesque Hamble Valley area and lies on the River Itchen that attracts anglers and is a designated site of Special Scientific Interest due to the variety of wildlife habitats that support rare and protected species. Settled since at least Roman times, Eastleigh was named and developed with the coming of the railways in the 19th century. The opening of the station here changed the town forever and the Eastleigh Museum is an excellent place to explore the fascinating past with a recreation of a 1930’s terraced house as well as exhibits relating to the railway.
Eastleigh provides ample amenities, shops, eateries, restaurants and pubs as well as visitor and cultural attractions within the area including; the Fleming Park Leisure Centre and the scenic Lakeside Country Park and Steam railway. Fly fishing along the river is a popular pleasure here and anglers are rewarded with the sight of water vole, otter, brook lamprey and white-clawed crayfish.
