Eastern Docks

The Eastern Docks is an important harbour of the port of Dover, otherwise known as the "lock and key of the kingdom". It grew from a small beginning, to become one of the busiest harbours in Europe, having grown to full capacity as a roll-on roll-off ferry terminal between Dover and Calais. It is enclosed by the Eastern Arm, the South Jetty, and the West Jetty, which, together help to create a rough square area known as the Camber, against the shore. During the First World War, the Camber was used by the Dover submarine flotilla, and their ship, the HMS Arrogant; while in the Second World War the Camber was host to motor torpedo and to gunboats of the Royal Navy.
