East Cowes

East Cowes is a town in the north of the Isle of Wight, situated prettily on the east bank of the River Medina, and neighbouring its twin town of Cowes, on the opposite bank. The two are joined by the Cowes Floating Bridge, which is a chain ferry that runs continuously between the two towns. East Cowes is the location of the former royal summer residences of Norris Castle and Osborne House, where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert would stay. The town, along with its twin, offers a good choice of holiday accommodation and a varied selection of pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Popular attractions on the island include Carisbrooke Castle in Newport, the famous views at The Needles and Alum Bay, the 108 km Isle of Wight Coastal Path, the Blackgang Chine theme park, the Isle of Wight Zoo, and Yarmouth Castle, to name only a few. The Isle of Wight is also a haven for wildlife and sites of geological and natural importance. It is one of the few places in England where the red squirrel is flourishing.
