Earlston

Earlston is a Scottish market town on the River Leader in Leaderdale, Berkwickshire. It is situated on the slopes of Black Hill, which is an ancient British hill fort where it is still possible to make out the remains of the fort and of the cave-dwellings of the Votadini — a tribal confederation that once occupied this region of Scotland.

Another local site of historical interest is the ruin of the Rhymer's Tower, which is a keep said to date as far back as the end of the 11th century. It is believed to have been the home of the poet and prophet Thomas Learmonth, better known as Thomas the Rhymer, the friend of the Elves, who was born in the town in circa 1225.

Attractions of the Scottish Borders include the Tweed Valley Osprey Watch, Ayton Castle, Melrose Abbey, and Thirlestane Castle, to name only a few.
