Dunragit

Dunragit is an attractive and welcoming village in the council area of Dumfries and Galloway, in the south-west of Scotland. It neighbours Stranraer and Glenluce in a scenic and largely rural part of the county, known for its tranquillity and pleasant county pursuits. This is a relatively new settlement that developed around the west gate of the 18th century Dunragit House.

The name of the village is thought to come from the Fort of Rheged, in reference to a hypothetical for belonging to the Brythonic Dark Age kingdom of Rheged who may have occupied the area between the 5th and 8th centuries.  The village is also in the location of a Roman crematorium, two castle mottes, and a neolithic pit monument, which was discovered by aerial photography in 1992.
