Dunkeld

Dunkeld is a small town in the Scottish council area of Perth and Kinross, neighbouring Perth, on the outskirts of the Scottish Highlands and on the opposite side of the River Tay from the Victorian village of Birnam, with which it shares a railway station on the Highlands mainline.

It's twp primary attractions are The Hermitage, which is a National Trust for Scotland site, and Dunkeld Cathedral. Dunkeld itself is largely a heritage area having been largely rebuilt and remaining one of the most completely preserved 18th-century towns in Scotland, much of which has been restored by the National Trust for Scotland. Instead of a traditional market cross, Dunkeld has the neo-Gothic Atholl Memorial Fountain, which was built in 1866, and is noted for its Masonic symbolism. It was built to commemorate George Murray, the 6th Duke of Atholl, who was Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Scotland from 1843 to 1864.
