The small town of Dukinfield is historically in the county of Cheshire and lies on the banks of the River Tame, at the edge of the Cheshire Plain where it meets the Pennines. There was evidence found of a settlement in Dukinfield in the early Bronze Age, when a collection of flints were discovered at the site of Dukinfield Hall. Industrialisation is what brought prosperity and growth here with the cotton trade of great importance as well as mining. This was the first town built on this hill in the Plain and its Town Hall, built in the late 1890’s, is at the base; with an 80 ft difference between the King Street lower side and the rear of the park.
Dukinfield offers visitors ample amenities, shops, eateries and pub along with historic sites, buildings and attractions in the area, as well as the lovely surrounding open spaces, meadows and pastures of the Cheshire Plain, just waiting to be explored and enjoyed. On a clear day, the views from here are spectacular, taking in the Cheshir Plain and canals that criss-cross the area.
