Dronfield is a town in North East Derbyshire, in central England, situated between Sheffield and Chesterfield on the River Drone. It neighbours various pretty and popular villages and hamlets, including Unstone, Holmesfield, Barlow, Apperknowle, Hundall and Eckington, in an area that is conveniently close to the Pennines and to many of the beauty spots of Derbyshire, such as the Peak District National Park, which is just 3 miles away.
This is an ancient town that still retains many listed buildings and landmarks as testament to its fascinating history, of which its 12th century church of St. John the Baptist is just one example, which is an excellent example of early Gothic architecture, featuring a number of stained glass windows and a dominating spire. The town's Peel Monument, situated in the town's High Street, was built in 1854 in tribute to Sir Robert Peel to commemorate his repeal of the Corn Laws in 1846, while 'The Cottage', which is also located on the High Street, is a 16th century house believed to have once been owned by Lord Byron.
Dronfield offers a good choice of holiday accommodations, fantastic shopping prospects, and excellent transport links that provide easy access to the popular attractions of both Derbyshire and the neighbouring counties, too.
