Dover

The port town of Dover in the county of Kent is probably the most well known port in Britain and home to the famous White Cliffs of Dover; the surrounding chalk cliffs that are the stuff of song. It is here that the Channel Tunnel makes landfall and from here that the Dover to Calais ferry operates. Archaeological discoveries have revealed that the area has always been a point of immigration and emigration in Britain.

A visit to Dover Castle will give the visitor a clear and near-complete insight into the darker past of this port; situated above the White Cliffs, this magnificent castle boasts a fascinating history. The Great Tower takes you straight to the medieval world of King Henry ll, authentically re-created to give a real sense of the 1180’s. The war years can be re-visited when you tour the Secret Wartime Tunnels situated deep beneath the cliffs and you can explore the daunting Medieval Tunnels here too. The town centre itself is a hub of cosmopolitan activity with a diverse choice of shopping and dining experiences, historic sites, cultural attractions and entertainment venues.
