Doune

Doune is a scenic burgh town the Scottish council area of Stirling (formerly Perthshire, which is still its postal address), on the River Teith. The town is overlooked by the imposing 14th century Doune Castle. The town is known for hosting a round of the British Hill Climb Championship each year, known as the Doune Speed Hillclimb, which is the most prestigious hillclimb course in Scotland. The town is also famous its history as a manufacturer of pistols, which are now collectable antiques and can be found in major museums, including the Museum of Scotland, in Edinburgh. It is alleged that a Doune pistol fired the first shot of the American War of Independence.
