The city of Derby is in the county of Derbyshire and is at the edge of the River Derwent. As the UK's most central city, Derby benefits from being both a great cultural base situated in the East Midlands, as well a picturesque place on the edge of the beautiful Peak District National park. Derby is credited with setting Britain’s Industrial Revolution in motion with some of the country’s first factories and spinning mills. Later fame came again as the factories of Rolls Royce and Royal Crown Derby operated here.
The bustling city centre boasts an excellent choice of entertainment venues, visitor attractions, pubs, restaurants, parks and open spaces. Landmarks of note include Derby Cathedral tower at 212 feet tall and home to a pair of breeding peregrine falcons since 2006. Derby Gaol dates back to 1756 and is a grim yet interesting attraction found in the dungeons of the Derbyshire County Gaol. The Derby Industrial Museum at the Derby Silk Mill reveals the industrial heritage and technological achievements of this city and includes exhibits of Rolls-Royce aero engines, railways, mining, quarrying and foundries.
