Delabole

The large village of Delabole in the scenic county of Cornwall is one of the highest villages in the county and home to the Delabole slate quarry. The oldest working slate quarry in England, it has been operating continuously since the 15th century it is also one of the largest of its type in the country. The village grew up around the quarry, providing amenities and housing for the workers and their families.

 

The position of the village at such a high altitude brings with it magnificent views across North Cornwall and the walks from here are popular for their diverse flora, fauna, wildlife and vistas. There are ample amenities, shops, eateries and pubs both in the village and the surrounding area as well as places of interest, visitor attractions and activities throughout the region. Each year, the famous Delabole Carnival takes place, bringing visitors from far and wide to enjoy the colour and atmosphere. The carnival is one of the biggest in Cornwall with a full week of events takes place each July.
