A cluster of towns comprise Deeside at the River Dee in Flintshire, Wales. This is an industrial area that experienced growth with the coming of industrialisation and the railways in the 19th century; although there are still relics here of Deeside's ancient history that dates back to Saxon times. A key event that led to a growth in prosperity was the production of sheet metal in 1896 at the Shotton Steelworks. The development of the steelworks changed the face of the existing settlement that was mainly marshland, to a thriving area of industry and accommodation for the workers that served it. Brickworks and other businesses existed here too, including a busy ship-building industry.
From its position in North Wales yet close to Chester, Deeside has access to a wealth of attractions and activities here along the River Dee and surrounding areas. Within Deeside there is ample shopping and amenities and a choice of pubs and eateries as well as places of interest to the visitor; including Mold Town and Markets, Connah's Quay, Flint Town and Markets, Holywell Town and Markets, the Dee Estuary and plenty of opportunity for lovely walks, sailing, golfing and bird watching
