The town of Cwmbran in Wales falls within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire in an area that has been inhabited since Neolithic times, although it is probably best known for the new town that was established here in 1949. Cwmbran New Town was the first `New Town` in Wales and was built around the villages of Old Cwmbran, Pontnewydd, Upper Cwmbran, Croesyceiliog, Llantarnam and Llanyrafon.
Visitors will find a town with ample amenities, shops, eateries, pubs and historic as well as cultural attractions; including the Llanyrafon Mill that is thought to date back at least to the 14th century, the Greenmeadow Community Farm with rare and Welsh breed farm animal, milking demonstrations, nature and woodland trails as well as renovated old barns and farmhouse and Llantarnam Grange, the region's only Arts Centre housed in a building that dates back to 1179, built by Cistercian Monks and later renovated by the Victorians.
