Currie

Currie is a suburb of the capital city of Edinburgh, in Scotland. It was previously a village within the County of Midlothian, lying to the south-west of the city, between Juniper Green and Balerno. It is now within the council area of the City of Edinburgh. The name of the settlement is thought to derive from the Scottish Gaelic word curragh, referring to a boggy plain.

Curry is an ancient settlement that is known to have been home to a sophisticated people since at least 1800BC, with a Bronze Age razor of the period having been found by Currie's Kinleith Mill, and with the presence of stone cists, from around 500 BC, that can be seen at Duncan's Belt and Blinkbonny. In later years the area became a favourite hunting ground of the Lords and Knights of Edinburgh Castle.

Today, Currie is a pleasant commuting suburb for Edinburgh, and a popular base from which tourists can explore the area, with the original historic centre having been declared a Conservation Area.
