Cromarty

The town of Cromarty is a Royal Burgh in the Scottish council area of Ross and Cromarty, in Highland, Scotland. It was formerly the county town of the now obsolete county of Cromartyshire. Cromarty is also a seaport, located on the southern shore of Cromarty Firth, 5 miles away from the neighbouring town of Invergordon. The town is characterised by the Georgian merchant houses that stand amid a townscape of Georgian and Victorian fisherman's cottages. It also features a thatched house in which the geologist Hugh Miller was born, with the addition of a commemorative statue.

The burgh is also noted a prime location for viewing offshore sea life including one of the most northerly groups of bottlenose dolphins. The University of Aberdeen Department of Zoology Lighthouse Field Station is also based in Cromarty.
