Crocketford

Crocketford, is a village in the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, within the council area of Dumfries and Galloway, in southern Scotland, near to the town of Dumfries. Also known as the Nine Mile Bar, the village wasn't a village at all until the 18th century, when the Buchanites sect settles here after twice being forcibly relocated. It originated as a way marker at a major crossroad between Dumfries and Castle Douglas. The village is now a popular commuter town and tourist base, due to its close proximity and good transport links to the various sites and attractions of the county. It offers a good range of holiday accommodation, including a very reputable hotel, a convenience shop/post office, and various small independent businesses as is typical of a village, with very good shopping prospects in the broader area. The village is also notable as the home to the Scottish Victorian poet, Alexander Anderson, who wrote under the name of Surfaceman.
