Criccieth

The seaside town of Criccieth in Gwynedd, Wales lies on the Lleyn Peninsula between the towns of Porthmadog and Pwllheli and is home to the ruins of the early 13th century Criccieth Castle. The castle is on the headland between the two beaches of Criccieth and although it is a traditional Welsh castle built by Llywelyn, it was heavily modified following its capture by Edward I in the late 13th century. The town of Criccieth developed in the 19th century with the coming of the railways and was a popular Victorian seaside resort.

Criccieth offers ample amenities, shops, eateries and pubs as well as historic sites and visitor attractions within the area. At the centre of town lies Y Maes, part of the original medieval town common and there are many other historic structures here, including of course the castle that dominates the town. Visitors in the summer months can enjoy the vibrant fairs that are held on 23rd May and 29th June each year with colourful fairgrounds and bustling markets.
