The market town of Cranbrook is located in the county of Kent and is the smallest town in this county. A small, peaceful town that seems virtually untouched by time; with pretty weatherboard houses and vistas over orchards and rich farmland. In medieval times, Cranbrook was at the heart of the thriving Wealden cloth industry and iron-making too was a contributor to the prosperity that ensued. The "Cathedral of the Weald" is a church here that was dedicated to St Dunstan. With a tower stretching up to 74 feet, this church was completed in 1425 and contains the prototype for the famous London landmark of Big Ben.
Cranbrook is a delightful town with varied attractions to entice the visitor, including; nearby Sissinghurst Castle Garden, one of the most visited gardens in England and designed by Vita Sackville-West. The charming atmosphere of this town is enhanced by its narrow medieval streets, lined with pretty houses that are each unique in design. Shops, churches, traditional pubs and a variety of restaurants along with an excellent town museum and the tallest, finest working smock mill in the country, Union Mill.
