A former rural village, Corby is now a large town in the county of Northamptonshire in the English East Midlands. It is situated within a triangle formed by the cities of Leicester, Peterborough and Northampton — a highly urbanised former industrial centre with extremely well developed transport links. As such, Corby now has the fastest growing population of the whole of England and Wales and features a very nicely designed modern railway station.
An unusal charter was granted to the town in 1568 by Elizabeth I, which is thought to either be in thanks to the villagers from rescuing her in an unfortunate hunting incident, or as a favour to her alleged lover, Sir Christopher Hatton. The charter exempted local landowners from tolls, dues and mandatory militia service.
Major attractions of the area include Haworth House of Brontë Country, Drayton Manor Theme Park, the Pennine moorland, and Calke Abbey.
