Corbridge

Corbridge is a village in English county of Northumberland, located 16 miles to the west of Newcastle and 4 miles to the east of Hexham. It is one of a knot of pleasant and traditional villages, including Halton, Acomb, Aydon and Sandhoe. It it best known for its close proximity to the Roman fort and settlement of Corstopitum (or Coriosopitum), which was once the most northerly town in the Roman Empire. Finds from the site include the Corbridge Hoard of armour and the stone Corbridge Lion. This ancient town is thought to have inspired Rudyard Kipling's Hunno on the Wall, in his classic novel Puck of Pook's Hill.

Popular attractions in the area include Hexham Racecourse, Path Head Water Mill, Wallington Hall, and Beamish, The North of England Open Air Museum.
