Colne

Nestled between a series of very well known English hills in an area of outstanding natural beauty, by the Forest of Bowland; Colne is the second largest town in the Borough of Pendle in Lancashire. The townscape of Colne is typical of its Lancastrian Mill Town heritage, with the layout of the town and many of the buildings remaining much as they would have appeared since the Industrial Revolution. 

There is much to see and do within and around the town, with many old villages close by, including Bronte Country and Haworth to the south east and Pendle Hill and Clitheroe to the north west. Pendle Hill is a particularly popular destination for walkers, especially at Halloween owing to its history as the site of the Pendle Witch Trials and the subsequent hanging of a number of people found guilty of the crimes they were accused of. Several buildings in the area are also said to be haunted and have been featured on the Most Haunted television series. The nearby hamlet of Wycoller also features an Iron Age pack horse bridge, which is of significant historical interest, as is the ruin of Wycoller Hall. Some visitors like to travel accross the moors to Hardcastle Crags and Hebden Bridge, which show some interesting geological features. 

The town is also features the British in India Museum and a memorial to Wallace Hartley, the bandmaster of the RMS Titanic who lived in the town and is buried in Colne's cemetery.
