Cockermouth is an ancient English market on the northern border of the famous Lake District National Park of Cumbria. It is named for its location at the confluence of the River Cocker and the River Derwent. The town centre retains many medieval buildings, with a general layout that has remained unchanged for centuries, featuring a weekly continental and crafts market, and cobbled streets that wind past the various traditional pubs down to the riverside.
Cockermouth boasts a number of popular attractions, including Wordsworth House — the birthplace of the famous Romantic poet; the Norman Cockermouth Castle; Jenning's Brewery; and the Lakeland Sheep & Wool Centre.
