The town of Clydebank in Dunbartonshire, Scotland lies on the banks of the River Clyde that flows through Glasgow on its journey from source to estuary. This location on a river that was such an important part of the industrial revolution led to much of the growth and development here at that time. Settlement though goes back a lot further and the various parishes and villages that are now part of Clydebank are the location of the ruins of parts of the Roman Antonine Wall. The stone and turf fortification was built by the Romans to mark the furthest and most northerly boundary of the Roman Empire; the Antonine Wall stretched between the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Clyde. Clydebank is well known for its shipbuilding heritage that flourished after 1886, when the Thomson brothers moved their shipbuilding yard from Govan to setup the Clyde Bank Shipbuilding Yard.
Clydebank offers all the amenities, shops, eateries and pubs you would expect of a large town in a bustling area. The choice of activities, visitor and cultural attractions and historic sites is plentiful in Clydebank and the surrounding area, including the excellent Clydebank Museum. Celebrating the rich heritage of Clydebank, the museum has artefacts, models and a collection that illustrates the story of the people of the town. Occasional temporary exhibitions and touring exhibitions form part of the museum's programme; you can find the Clydebank Museum in the Clydebank Town Hall on Dumbarton Road.
