The coastal town of Clevedon in Somerset is set amidst the hills along the River Severn estuary and grew from early settlement, to become a popular Victorian resort town. The seafront today still includes a wonderful Victorian bandstand as well as one of the most important Victorian piers in the country. Clevedon Pier is Grade 1 listed and dates back to 1869; it is recognised as a national monument. Constructed from eight spans made of curved Barlow rails, the pier still welcomes ships and the Waverley paddle steamer and her sister ship, the Balmoral pleasure cruiser are frequent callers during the summer months. Clevedon is also home to Clevedon Court, one of the oldest manor houses in England, dating from the 14th century. It was built by Sir John de Clevedon and includes parts of a 13th century tower and great hall within its construction.
Clevedon is an idyllic resort town with lots of seaside attractions and activities, tea shops and pubs, souvenir shops and amenities. A stroll along the pier offers a delightful view of the town and the Welsh coast whilst a stroll inland can take you up the hills Churchill, Dial hill, Strawberry hill, Castle hill, Hangstone hill, Court hill which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Wain's hill with the remains of an Iron Age hill fort. Clevedon has retained its Victorian elegance and is a pleasure to explore and enjoy.
