Cleethorpes is an English town and seaside resort in North East Lincolnshire. It is situated on the estuary of the Humber, adjoining the neighbouring town of Grimsby. The town originated as three small villages, or "thorpes", which is the Old Norse term for a village, before developing further as one larger fishing village along side the fish port at Grimsby, and later again as a Victorian seaside resort.
The town offers a wide sandy beach and amusement-filled promenade, a busy high street, various entertainment venues, and a popular string of nightclubs. Popular local attractions include Cleethorpes Pier, Pleasure Island Family Theme Park, Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway, the Discovery Centre, the Sealife Centre, The Jungle Zoo, Meridian Point, and Fantasy World Play Centre, to name only a handful.
