Cinderford

Cinderford is a small town in the diverse county of Gloucestershire, a scenic county that includes the Cotswolds, the Royal Forest of Dean and the Severn Vale. Cinderford is at the edge of the Forest of Dean and was built on the coal mining industry that came in the 19th century. When the industry declined in the 1950’s, Cinderford’s mines closed too and with little else to replace it, the town declined. More recent history though has seen improvements and investment here and of course, tourism to this beautiful county has benefitted Cinderford.

Cinderford's coal mining heritage can be seen in the sculpture of a coal-miner as well as the architecture and layout of the town that was planned, like many coal mining towns, on a grid pattern with terraced houses quintessential of the style. Ample amenities, shops, eateries and pubs are centred around the High Street and Belle Vue Road and at Steam Mills, visitors will find the local brewery. The Freeminer Brewery gets its name from the ancient right to mine coal in the Royal Forest of Dean and is a brewer of traditional ales.
