Chulmleigh

The small hilltop town of Chulmleigh in the attractive county of Devon lies in a picturesque area with outstanding walks, views and wildlife. This remote town started out as a Saxon settlement and has a wonderful blend of old architectural styles including pretty cob and thatched buildings and one of the finest churches in the country. Chulmleigh’s natural beauty is enjoyed by visitors throughout the year and the area is identified as an Area of Rural Tranquillity as well as being designated an Area of Great Landscape Value. This ancient land is untouched by time and remains much as it always has been; natural, rural and diverse.

Chulmleigh has just enough amenities, shops, eateries and pubs to satisfy the visitor but most come for the tranquillity, the walks and the scenery. The spectacular National Parks of Exmoor and Dartmoor are nearby as are the Tarka Trail and the Two Moors Way; offering walks, cycle trails and abundant flora, fauna and wildlife. Each year in the summer the town celebrates its heritage with the Chulmleigh Fair that has been held here since the mid 13th century.
