The town of Christchurch in the beautiful county of Dorset lies between the Rivers Avon and Stour and has long been settled; with evidence dating back to the Iron Age when the area between the rivers was used as a trading point. By 900, the town was heavily fortified by Alfred the Great to protect it from the Danes. Smugglers once used the sheltered harbour and in 1784, they fought with Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise in the famed Battle of Mudeford. The town has grown from important trading port to the popular tourist destination that we see today, welcoming visitors throughout the year.
Christchurch and the surrounding area are blessed with an incredible number of conservation areas, listed buildings, ancient monuments, important archaeological sites and vast nature reserves with diverse flora, fauna and wildlife to explore. Christchurch also offers ample amenities, nearby sporting activities, shops, eateries and pubs as well as so much for visitors to see, do and enjoy.
