Chertsey is a town on the River Thames in Surrey, South East England. It is situated conveniently within the London Commuter Belt, with excellent links to the capital. Thorpe Park is located in Chertsey, making it a very popular location for that facts alone, attracting millions of visitors each year.
This pretty and historic town offers a well stocked high street, numerous quality restaurants, and a good choice of holiday accommodation. It is one of the oldest towns in England, having grown around Chertsey Abbey, which was founded in 666 A.D. The Abbey was one of the largest Benedictine abbeys in England, until the Dissolution in 1536. The remains of the outer walls now make an attractive feature in the town, as is the eighteenth-century Chertsey Bridge with its bronze statue of local heroine Blanche Heriot. The rich and absorbing history of the town can be explored at the admission-free museum located on Windsor Street.
