Chalfont Saint Giles

Chalfont St. Giles is a picturesque village on the edge of the Chilterns Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Buckinghamshire, just  25 miles from both London and Oxford. It is now largely a commuter village due to its excellent location, as well as a popular base from which to enjoy a holiday; with a good choice of guest accommodation and countless sites and attractions within easy reach. The village is characterised by its 18th century cottages, its ancient High Street and a large duck pond in the village centre.

Chalfont St. Giles is also the location of Milton's Cottage — the only surviving home of the poet John Milton, which he rented to escape an outbreak of the plague in London with his wife Elizabeth Minshull and daughter, Deborah. It is in these years of displacement that Milton completed his great work "Paradise Lost".
