Castle Hedingham

Castle Hedingham is a small village in the English county of Essex, neighbouring the town of Halstead. It enjoys an attractive location in the Colne Valley, on the ancient road between Colchester and Cambridge.

As its name suggests, the settlement developed around Hedingham Castle, which was the ancestral seat of the de Veres, Earls of Oxford. The well preserved Norman castle, is now a very popular tourist attractions, as is the Colne Valley Railway, and the numerous timber-framed medieval buildings in the area.

Other attractions in the area include Gainsborough's House, Melford Hall, Paycockes House, and Coggeshall Grange Barn.
