Castle Donington

Castle Donington is a large village in the North West of Leicestershire, within the Derby postcode area, and close to East Midlands Airport. The 17th century neo-Gothic Donington Hall, is located just outside of the village, and currently serves as the headquarters of BMI. Part of its former estate is now home to the world famous Donington Park motor racing circuit, which draws many thousands of visitors to the village each year. 

The village is in a pretty location on the edge of the National Forest, which is an area spanning 200 square miles that has been designated for the redevelopment of woodland and wildlife habitat. It encorporates the ancient forests of Needwood and Charnwood. There is a good choice of holiday accommodation, fantastic shopping prospects and countless popular attractions in the area, suggesting that Castle Donington could be an excellent base from which to enjoy a break in the English Midlands. 
Castle Donington is a very quaint and historic location with strong links to the founding kings of England. King's Mill, the local crossing point of the River Trent, is mentioned in a charter signed by Æþelræd Unræd (King Ethelred the Unready) in 1009. Castle Donington is referred to in the Domesday Book as Dunitune. The area's fascinating history, which can be explored further at the Castle Donington Museum. Popular attractions in the area include Alton Towers family theme park, the geologically significant sites of the Peak District National Park, and numerous historical houses.
