Cardross is a large and attractive village in the historic Scottish council area of Dunbartonshire, which is on the north side of the Firth of Clyde. It is located midway between the large towns of Dumbarton and Helensburgh. Cardross was once the principal town of the parish of Cardross, at which Robert the Bruce once lived. He died there at his manorial house, in 1329, which is believed to have stood in a field known as the Mains of Cardross. Kilmahew Castle is also a popular attraction for visitors to the area, as it lies just to the north of the village, as is Geilston House, which is a National Trust for Scotland property.
